Growing Urbanism

Initiated by the “Living City Design Competition” conducted by the International Living Future Institute, Growing Urbanism speculates about the intersection between nature and technology, and how this relationship might evolve cities into dynamic ecosystems. This vision embraces novel premises regarding nature, technology and site as well as soft systems as design and implementation approach. Growing Urbanism promotes the re-emergence of natural systems, new ways of resource exchange and urban food production. It proposes the integration of innovative biological construction systems, information technology and ecological economy. Based on the conditions in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest, this ecological approach to urbanism is intended to grow beyond its origin to transform urban futures globally.
